State Regulators
Each state or territory has a State Appraiser Regulatory Agency that is responsible for certifying and licensing real estate appraisers and supervising their appraisal-related activities, as required by federal law. Use the tool below to find the agency for your state. You can sort each category by clicking on the heading.
Congress passed the Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery and Enforcement Act of 1989 (FIRREA), including Title XI. This set up a real estate appraiser regulatory system involving federal and state government and The Appraisal Foundation® (Foundation).
The Appraisal Subcommittee (ASC) of the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) monitors and reviews the work of the Foundation. The ASC also maintains oversight authority over the states to ensure the minimum qualifying criteria to license and certify real estate appraisers are implemented and that appraisers are held to a professional set of ethical standards.

Course Providers
The Appraisal Foundation® (Foundation) develops Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP®) courses for real property appraisers, personal property appraisers, and business valuers. Additionally, the Foundation’s Appraiser Qualifications Board (AQB) approves USPAP®-equivalent courses for education providers who choose to develop their own USPAP® courses. The Foundation has also developed additional USPAP® standards-related courses and corrective education courses.

Publication Discounts
Individuals who wish to support the Foundation’s mission to advance public trust and excellence in the appraisal profession and contribute financially to that work can be eligible to receive publication discounts. Individuals or organizations who contribute $6,000-$20,000 may receive a 10% discount for a course cycle. Those who contribute $20,000 and above may receive a 15% discount for a course cycle. AQB-Approved Degree Programs
As of August 2024, through its Degree Review Program, the Appraiser Qualifications Board (AQB) has approved:
- 31 Undergraduate degrees
- 16 Graduate degrees
- 1 Associate degree
These programs have been reviewed to determine how much of the Required Core Curriculum they satisfy for appraiser licensure.

How to Read the Tables
Each table includes three columns:
- College/University: Name of the institution offering the approved degree.
- Degree: Title of the approved degree program. (Click the degree name to visit the program’s webpage.)
- Approval Dates: Time period during which the degree program was approved. (Click the date range to view the official AQB approval letter.)
Note for Alumni
To confirm whether your degree qualifies for credit:
- Find your degree and check the approval date range.
- Make sure your graduation year falls within the approved time period.
- Review the approval letter to ensure you completed any required electives listed for credit.
- You must complete the entire degree program and all specified elective coursework to qualify for credit.
- Once verified, contact your state regulatory agency to submit your coursework for review.
Note for State Regulators
Some institutions may have multiple approval periods for the same degree. This reflects curriculum changes such as course additions, removals, or substantial revisions. For example:
Texas A&M University’s Master of Real Estate has two approval periods: 2004–2015 and 2015–2024.
These changes may affect the number of qualifying education hours granted. Always consult the linked approval letters for detailed guidance on each version of the program.
